  4. The European UnionWednesday 13th September Spend the first 5 minutes making a spider diagram with any facts you know about the EU. The European Union

True, False, ? • It started in 1957 as the European Community and the UK joined in 1973. • The EU has its’ own Parliament and this is based in Paris. • Each country has to pay money to be a member, and this mostly comes from taxes. • Russia is a member of the EU. • It began as a post-war idea between 8 countries that wanted to share control over coal and steel to guarantee a more peaceful future fro Europe.

In 1999 the EU decided to ban TV adverts for sweets and toys for children under 12 years old. 9. The EU wants to promote freedom, security and justice. 10. Tony Blair is head of the EU.

  7. Where are the countries in the EU? We are now going to use an atlas to locate countries in the EU, and discover some new facts about them.
