  • It started in 1957 as the European Community and the UK joined in 1973.

  • The EU has its’ own Parliament and this is based in Paris.

  • Each country has to pay money to be a member, and this mostly comes from taxes.

  • Russia is a member of the EU.

  • It began as a post-war idea between 8 countries that wanted to share control over coal and steel to guarantee a more peaceful future fro Europe.
