Albany as a city the fundamental European settlement in the state and it was basically settled by Dutch, they also made the Fort Nassau for fur exchanging in 1614.   1. About Albany Albany has a rich history dating back more than 400 years. When Henry Hudson arrived in 1609, the area was already home to the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) and the Dutch had established a trading post. In 1797, Albany became the official capital of New York State. Since then, Albany has been a center for banking, railroads, and international trade. Four New York state governors went on to become President of the United States.

The Albany Heritage Area Visitors Center The Albany Heritage Area Visitors Center is an information center, museum, and planetarium located on Quackenbush Square at the corner of Broadway and Clinton Avenue in Albany. Housed in an old water pumping station, the center provides information to help tourists during their visit to Albany.

  3. Albany Institute of History & Art The museum was founded in 1791, making it one of the oldest museums in the U.S. It merged with the Albany Historical and Art Society and became Albany Institute of History & Art in 1926.

  4. Albany City Hall Located on Eagle Street, Albany City Hall is a historic building and the seat of government for the city of Albany. Built in 1883 by Henry Hobson Richardson in Romanesque style, City Hall features a 202 foot (62 meter) tall carillon tower which is one of few municipal carillons in the U.S.

  5. Climate In Albany Winters can be very cold with fluctuating conditions; temperatures drop to 0 °F (−18 °C) or below on nine nights per annum. Summers in Albany can contain stretches of excessive heat and humidity, with temperatures of 90 °F (32 °C) or hotter on nine days per year.   6. Culture In Albany The Palace Theatre and The Egg provide mid-sized forums for music, theater, and spoken word performances, with the Capital Repertory Theatre filling the small-sized niche. Madison Avenue, Pearl Street, Delaware Avenue and Lark Street serve as the most active entertainment areas in the city. Many restaurants, clubs, and bars have opened since the mid-1990s, revitalizing numerous areas that had once been abandoned

  8. Economy Albany's economy, along with that of the Capital District in general, is heavily dependent on government, health care, education, and more recently, technology.   9. Demographics The population had 20.0% under the age of 18, 19.3% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 18.1% from 45 to 64, and 13.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31.4 years. For every 100 females, there were 90.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.5 males.
