Maharashtra and Gujarat, key states of the western region and known as the manufacturing hub of India, continue to receive big- ticket investment projects. The region is leading in terms of investment opportunities, manufacturing capacity, and investment-friendly locations. Sekar Udayamurthy, chief executive of cer (CEO) and co- founder of Jidoka Technolo- gies, said, “Western India is an important strategic growth region for Jidoka. Our AI-enabled visual inspection solution empowers manu- facturers to harness high business value by improving quality, reducing costs, and increasing output. Our Pune centre will be supporting cus- tomers in the manufacturing industry across Maharashtra and Gujarat.” A. I remember the first week of my career. Upon joining Voltas, a renowned brand, I commenced my career as a frontline salesperson, joining a team of ten colleagues. Following a ten-day induction program, we were told to venture into the market alongside experienced seniors. It began smoothly, but my senior fell ill and took leave. My manager told me to accompany the distributor and observe their sales team in action. Though initially reserved, I couldn’t resist active- ly involving myself as the day progressed. I engaged in conversations with retailers, atten- tively listening to their concerns and relaying the journey in the field of management. The book’s impact goes beyond just sales and marketing roles, as it is relevant to every department within an organization since all departments have objec- tives they aim to achieve. Specifically for individ- uals aspiring to work in sales, this book provides invaluable insights into the essential qualities and behaviors expected of them. | Nasir Shaikh feedback@punemirror.com TWEET @ThePuneMirror une Times Mirror was a part of the launch of ‘Tips & strategies of sales & marketing’ recently. The book was unveiled by S.D. Sharma, chairman, The Lexicon Group, in the presence of Neeraj Sharma, vice-chairman of the group and director of Pune Mirror, Civic Mirror Q. Are channelled sales relevant in today’s world of modern trade and e-commerce? A. I think the rise of modern trade can be charac- terized by the presence of large format retail giants such as D-Mart, Walmart, Metro, SPAR, and Star Bazar, along with the growing influence of e-commerce, which has become an undeniable force in the retail industry. These modern trade channels have revolutionized the way people shop and have significantly impacted consumer behaviour. However, amidst this transformation, it is vital to recognize the significant role that the Kirana stores play in the retail landscape. These stores have been an integral part of local communities. While modern trade and e-commerce offer a wide range of choices and convenience, there are cer- tain situations where customers may not find it necessary to travel to a shopping mall or make online purchases for smaller items. How can a company achieve sales growth in this world of tough competi- tion? A: Competition is an essential catalyst for sales growth in any industry. When companies face competition, they are compelled to go beyond their comfort zones and explore new avenues for growth. A perfect example of how competition drives companies to evolve is the dynamic between Hindustan Lever and Patanjali. To effec- tively compete, Hindustan Lever had to adopt an Indianization strategy, aligning its products and marketing approach to cater to the evolving pref- erences of Indian consumers.
