  1. Inverters & Their Role in Supplying Power A solar power system in the home or commercial or industrial premises needs a solar inverter to perform properly and convert solar panel energy to usable power. This is where the inverter comes in. Inverters convert direct current (DC) which is produced by PV solar panels into alternating current (AC) to power the appliances in your home and elsewhere. There are different inverters available in the market, and best is to speak with a professional in this regard, such as a solar power installations company that understands what clients need and which inverters best suit their needs. The inverter is normally installed between the solar panels on your roof and the electrical distribution panel inside your home, thereby making sure it is in place to help convert the solar energy into the energy used inside the home or building. Inverters also do more than convert solar energy; they are used, for example, to monitor the performance of the solar panels. These inverters convert energy into AC electricity and store same in solar batteries. This is great for those times that the grid may be down or you need backup energy. The power is stored in the batteries for specifically those times. There are different types of inverters, and every homeowner or owner of a commercial outlet should look at what their best option is. There are two types of inverter that one can use. It is important to make sure you acquire a quality inverter that guarantees high effectiveness, an inverter that is made to last for as long as possible. When you have your new solar panel and micro inverter system installed, it is good to note that the panels normally last longer than the inverters, which makes choosing a better quality (therefore often a little more expensive) inverter a sensible choice. Ask your installations company to show you the inverters they have, and which brands they represent so that you know you make a good choice. The two types of inverters that one can choose from are known as the string inverter and the microinverter. The string inverter is, by comparison, a larger device than the other option, i.e. the microinverter. The string inverter is also referred to as a central inverter. It transforms DC current into AC current for home and commercial outlet use. This inverter is used as central point for the solar energy of all panels to be wired into one central inverter, or string inverter, from where the electrical panel inside the building is then fed with AC power, which is the converted power we use. The string inverter is often used where panels all face in one direction, or where shade and other factors do not interfere with the solar energy system at your premises. As opposed to this inverter, the microinverter is, by comparison, smaller and attached to not a central inverter but to separate solar panels from where they convert the power immediately before sending it to the electrical panel. At this distribution panel the converted power combines with the power generated by the other inverters. This has the effect, therefore, that microinverters convert the power from separate solar panels to create their own AC power or energy source. Most households use this microinverter system, as microinverters are ideal for circumstances where not all panels face in one direction, or where shade and trees (such as at homes) may cause more limited sunlight during the day. When you are ready to make the move to solar energy, find a solar energy supply services company that can offer you quality inverters, preferably microinverters for home use.
