A little about me… • Third year at MViT • I taught middle school math the 3 years prior to MViT at Hillside and Valley View • For the last 5 years I have been coaching the Varsity softball team at Simi Valley High School, and currently give private lessons. • NCAA College World Series National Champion for UC San Diego Softball

  3. 6th Grade Textbooks • We are using the Big Ideas Course 1 Common Core Textbook • There is an online textbook for math www.bigideasmath.com • McDougal Little Grade 6 Earth Science Interactive Reader • California Collections Textbook for ELA • There is an online textbook for ELA https://my.hrw.com/dashboard/home • History Alive! The Ancient World • There is an Online Textbook for history https://www.teachtci.com Students will: • Work collaboratively • Participate in hands-on learning • Apply mathematical thinking to real world situations

  4. Grades are based on the following: • Tests (Test Review-Complete test corrections earn up to half the points lost on each test in math) • Quizzes • Assignments which include: homework, classwork, warm ups, projects, critical thinking problems, etc.

  5. Homework Policy • Homework is assigned Mon. – Thurs • All homework is checked daily • Late Credit (Homework can be turned in for partial credit if late.) Pizza rewards • Paper must be set up correctly • NO WORK = NO CREDIT • All homework must be done in PENCIL • Homework is to be written down daily in agenda books and will be sent out to parents via the “Remind” app.

  6. Absent Policy • Absent Policy • All work must be made up for credit • Students have the number of days they were absent to complete & return work • Paper must say absent at the top

  9. 6th Grade Activities to look forward to: • California Science Center: Wednesday, December 11th • All School Field Trip: Friday, May 1st • Santa Cruz/Santa Rosa Island, Channel Islands Excursion (this is the big one that we will be fundraising for! Sometime in late May or early June) • 6th Grade Pool Party: Last week of School Potential Field Trips: • Wolf Camp (Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend January 18th-January 20th, approx. $265 per student)

Important Dates: Harvest Carnival: Friday, October 25th (5PM-8PM) Winter Program: Tuesday, December 17th Open House: Wednesday, February 19th 6th Grade Panorama Picture: Thursday, March 19th Junior Olympics: Saturday, April 18th Field Day: Friday, May 29th Graduation: Wednesday, June 5th @8:30AM All School Musical Field Trip: Friday, May 1st Science Fair- January 2020

  11. How can you help? • Harvest Carnival Booth Volunteers • 6th Grade Fundraisers (if needed) • Bake Sale Item Donations and Volunteers • Winter Program • Open House • Sign up for PTA $7 goes towards activities throughout the year, will earn a popcorn party from PTA with 100% participation!
