Mission and Vision Statements Beaumont Unified School District Mission Statement The Beaumont Unified School District shall provide high quality educational opportunities for all students in a safe and secure learning environment through a shared commitment among home, school, and community. San Gorgonio Middle School Mission Vision Inspiring Students to make the dream of COLLEGE and CAREER READINESS a reality. Mission Getting Students COLLEGE and CAREER ready through the school-wide implementation of AVID strategies.

San Gorgonio Mission School Statement Counseling Department: The San Gorgonio Middle School (SGMS) Counseling department will provide a safe and secure learning environment to help students obtain a high quality education in order for our students to be college and career ready. SGMS counseling department will provide an opportunity for all student to address their social/emotional needs thru access of a comprehensive counseling program based on the American School Counselors Association (ASCA) national Model.

San Gorgonio Middle School Counseling department Vision Statement: The vision of the San Gorgonio Middle School (SGMS) counseling department is every student can succeed academically through collaborative efforts of school, home, and community leading to responsible and productive, college and career ready citizens of the 21st century. Students at SGMS have exhibited mastery of the California State Standards to propel them for the rigors of high school. Our students demonstrate character skills to nurture relationships, continuous improvement of school culture at SGMS, and to fulfill their role as world class citizens through our school counseling program. Through schoolwide support and collaborative efforts, our students value college and career readiness and contribute as productive members of their community as they navigate their way through home, career, and community.

ASCA (American School Counselor Association) National Model •Foundation - contains goals for student achievement; what students should know and be able to do; how every student will benefit from the school counseling program (Vision, Mission, Program Goals) •Delivery System - describes the activities, interactions, and methods that deliver the program (Curriculum, Individual Planning, Responsive Services, System Support) •Management System - incorporates organizational processes and tools to ensure the program is concrete, organized, and clear (Annual Agreement, Advisory Council, Action Plans, Calendars - reporting of data, and use of time) •Accountability - the collection and use of data that link student skill and development to student achievement (Curriculum/Small Group Results Reports, Closing the Gap Reports)

Why American School Counseling Association Model? • Gives vision and focus • Move towards becoming a comprehensive counseling program • Build partnerships • Create programs and supports to increase student achievement • Intentional vs. reactive counseling • Set Goals • Accountability • Analyze Data • Increase communication • Creating a network that can offer supports to your students and the families your serve • Ownership of your time and your program • Doing what is best for kids

Conversations with Students at SGMS • Behavior and Academic Expectation talks- January 14-18, all students at SGMS Library • Stop It App- Anonymous reporting: CODE: 0141 (available in google classroom) • Game Attendance- students are not wander around campus, can not leave and come back, no music played from speakers • Office Expectations • Discipline policies- handout available • Tardy policies- handout available

Conversations with SGMS students continued • Self-Harm talks January 28-Feb.1- all students at SGMS with Mrs. Lacey and grade level counselor • Topics included: • What is Self-Harm • Myths vs. Facts • What are the Risks of Self- Harm • How to Stop/Coping Skills of Self-Harm • If you see it, say something...Stop It App- Code 0141 • Parents and Caregivers Workshop regarding Self-Harm and Adolescents • Thursday, February 28th, 5:00pm-6:00pm at SGMS

Conversation with Students continued…. • Topics included: Eligibility- handouts available and tutoring to regain eligibility • All U grades recorded on the 1st quarter and Semester 1 report card (N’s included) must be repaired to participate in the end of the year activities. • Students will not be allowed to participate if they have not repaired • Log 15 hours of approved tutoring sessions to replace one U: • Tutoring Logs are available in Office B • Attend Saturday School - students can earn between 1 and 5 hours per Saturday • Teacher Signatures are required for credit (yellow tutoring log) • Students can arrange for tutoring with individual teachers - Academic intervention SGMS February Break Intervention (February 19-20) 8am-12pm

  10. 8th Grade: Mark your Calendars Beaumont High School AVID Interviews- Angelina Reinbolz, BHS AVID Coordinator 1/31 in office A (for student that are currently in AVID 8th) Pre-Registration for Class of 2023 Parent Orientation in March 11th 5-7 pm in the BHS Theatre.

Registration: Upcoming Dates- Incoming 6th graders • Thursday, April 4th- Incoming 6th grade Elective and Club rush • 4:00 pm- Elective Rush and clubs in the Library • 4:30pm & 6:00pm- Parent Meeting in the Gym • Spanish Speaking Parent Meeting in Room 34 • May 14th- ALL 5th graders visit SGMS for a guided tour

Registration Upcoming Dates--Elementary Visits Counselors will be going to elementary students to register incoming 5th grade students: • Friday, April 5th- Starlight Elementary @9:00 am • Monday, April 8th- Anna Hause @9:00 am • Monday, April 8th- Sundance @11:15am-12:15pm, 1:15 pm -2:15 pm • Tuesday, April 9th- Palm @ 9:00 am

  14. Registration: Upcoming Dates April 11-12 Current 6th graders will have registration in their Science classes April 22-29 Current 7th graders will have registration during state testing block in their Science classes Wednesday, April 10th Elective Rush for 6th and 7th grade

  15. College and Career Readiness: PSAT What is the PSAT? • PSAT was given to all 8th grade students at BUSD in October • Mirrors the SAT- test the same skills that are on the SAT • Prepares students to take the SAT in 11th grade • Students take the PSAT in 10th grade to try and win a National Merit Scholarship ($2,500) 8th PSAT Reviewed Results with English Teachers Mrs. Mantei, Mrs. Masel and Mrs. Wiedenman
