  8. Decreases in Coastal Wetland Area At least forty percent of the coastal wetland area in North Maumee Bay has been lost or severely degraded due to area development.

  9. Nationally Declining Wetlands The North Maumee Bay Restoration Area predominantly contains palustrine emergent wetlands, classified by the NWI as a nationally decreasing wetland type.

  10. Hemmelgarn Parcel Acquisition • Hemmelgarn is the last major land acquisition as well as the last large undeveloped parcel of land in the area. • This acquisition in necessary to prevent future development, especially the expansion of an existing commercial marina on the adjacent peninsula.
