  3. Choosing the Right Hike Biggest mistake made by the beginners is selecting the long hike or one having excessive climbing. Consider normal pace as 2 miles per hour. And If you’ve selected Hill or mountain then add one hour for thousand feet of elevation.

  4. Weather conditions Weather conditions can drastically change your first hiking experience, So it is always better to check the weather condition before going to hike a trail.

  5. Clothing Make sure that your clothes are adequately warm and in layers.

  6. Right shoes Painful feet can destroy your first hiking experience. Invest in high-quality shoes that provide solid grip and support to your ankles.

  7. Light packing Pack as light as possible for you. Invest in sharable things like cooking equipment that can be distributed among the team members. Take lightweight food & carry them in light bags.

  8. Eat & Drink well Food is nothing but fuel for the human body, and after a day’s hike you just want to erect your tent and sleep. But eating & drinking after an entire day of hiking is extremely important.

  9. Directions GPS receivers are useless while there is no network signal on mountains. Get the printed map for your planned hike. Learn to use compass & topographical maps since those are very crucial in determining the level.

  10. Experienced Partner It is always advisable to hike with experienced partners or at least with one of them. If you’ve hiker friends, ask them to accompany you.

  12. Hiking with Dogs Dogs are great companions, particularly when you’re hiking alone. First, you need to find out whether dogs are allowed on the trail you’re going to cover and whether your furry friend needs to stay on-leash the entire time.

However, in case you find nothing after backtracking a while, try to call or text the local emergency number.

If you’re a woman hiking during your periods, bring along adequate menstrual supplies and handle them efficiently. When you plan a day’s mileage, consider water, clothes, foods and breaks as well. Don’t forget to take plenty of rest. Ideally, you should take rest before you get absolutely weary. Stay protected from sunburn by applying sunblock frequently.
