  1. 6 Cord Blood Preservation Steps Followed By Cryoviva Cord Blood Stem Cells Bank Babies arrive in this world with powerful regenerative cells in their umbilical cord. These stem cells are capable of treating a wide variety of life-threatening diseases. Cord blood banking is a process to preserve these lifesaving stem cells safely after childbirth which can be used in future. Here are six steps through which Cryoviva cord blood stem cells bank these regenerative cells. 1. Enrollment Parents need to get enrolled in a cord blood bank before the delivery of the child. After which, they receive cord blood collection kit containing tools and instrument required for the collection of cord blood, tissue and maternal blood samples in sterile conditions. 2. Collection Just after the birth of the child, the umbilical cord is clamped and cut by the medical provider. Three samples are collected — Blood from umbilical cord vein, a small piece of umbilical cord tissue, mother’s peripheral blood. 3. Packing Collected samples of cord blood and tissue is safely packed in kits and transferred to Cryoviva’s laboratory within 24 hours. 4. Evaluation Once the sample reaches the lab, it is tested for contamination or infection. Many factors of the collected blood are tested, like, cell count, viability, and sterility. After positive result, they are moved for processing. 5. Processing Processing is a system to retrieve the maximum number of stem cells from the cord blood. In this procedure, red blood cells and other cells are removed from the collected sample.

  2. 6. Storage After processing, the sample undergoes different levels of quality assessment to check the purity of cells. After this step, stem cells are stored in liquid nitrogen at -196 °C for 21 years. Thus, stem cells present in the cord blood of baby is preserved and stored in a cord blood bank. The cells can be used any time in the future by either baby or its family members when required.
