Steps in Cord Blood Banking Clamping & Cutting After the birth of the baby, the umbilical cord is clamped by C-section or vaginally and then cut in the usual way by the medical professional. Collection of Cord Blood Cord blood is collected from umbilical cord vein by inserting needle into that part of cord that is still attached to the placenta. It takes around 2 to 3 minutes for the entire collection process to get completed.
