  1. STAINLESS STEEL TUBES APPLICATIONS AND TYPES Santosh Steel introduces stainless steel. So basically what is stainless steel? Stainless steel comprises of steel alloy of iron with a minimum of 10.5% Chromium. Chromium produces very small layer of oxide on the surface of the steel called the 'passive layer'. This prevents corrosion of the surface. Increasing the number of chromium may result in increased resistance to corrosion. It is an important part of modern life and is used in a very many applications, including heavy industry, architecture, automotive manufacture, surgery and dentistry. It is used in fabrication and manufacturing. It is also corrosion-resistant. It contains manganese, carbon and silicon in varying proportions. Other elements such as nickel and molybdenum are commonly added to increase corrosion-resistance and stiffness. Here you will get to know about application of stainless steel tubing: Stainless steel tubing is used in aircraft hydraulic lifts which use less amount of nickel and large percentage of chromium. It is used in production of high quality mufflers in auto industry. Factories, mills and production lines use these components for their machines or in manufactured products. In industries, aerospace, military and nuclear development use resistant varieties made with alloys for their needs. Households are fully filled with stainless steel tubing. Refrigerators and common house hold applications use them. To prevent corrosion and gas leaks, in household and industrial gas lines stainless steel tube is used. It is also used in providing systematic support in buildings and vehicles. TYPES OF STAINLESS STEEL: Austenitic Ferritic Martensitic Duplex

  2. The in-depth detail about types of stainless steel is described below: Austenitic Stainless steel The most commonly used stainless steel is austenitic stainless steel. It has high content in nickel. It also contain high amount of chromium, nitrogen, and molybdenum. It is renowned for extreme weld-ability and malleability. Mostly used in kitchen cutlery and storage components, they also receive lots of credit for strength capabilities. They have very high corrosion resistance. This suits them for a range of uses where a corrosive environment is present. It also includes alloys 304 and 904L (N08904). It is expensive, this is the only problem with austenitic stainless steel. FerriticStainless steel Ferritic stainless steels are stainless steels with low, but existing amounts of carbon. Generally, carbon density in ferritic stainless steels doesn’t exceed 0.10%. While other minerals may be added steels (molybdenum may be a common additive), they contain chromium. It is magnetic, and is most commonly for resistance to strain corrosion cracking. Because of this, they also make use of products that will come in contact with potentially corrosive materials. These products include car components, kitchen cookware, and industrial entities. The common types are alloys 430 and 434. Duplex Stainless steel It is basically combination of austenitic and ferritic stainless steels. They possess less nickel and is stronger than austenitic and ferritic stainless steels. It is less expensive. Used in underwater oil industry. This is due to corrosion resistance capabilities, which allow it to withstand the corrosive nature of salt water over long period of time. Duplex stainless steels can be shaped to create a number of different components as it is fairly malleable and weldable. S31803 stainless steel and S32205 stainless steel are the common types of duplex stainless steel. Martensitic stainless steels Martensitic stainless steels are same as ferritic stainless steels, with the only differences being their percentages of carbon. While carbon percentages in ferritic steel remain below 0.10%, carbon percentages in martensitic stainless steel stick around 1%. This difference in carbon percentages is important because it allows for martensitic stainless steels to be hardened to great extents. This steel is usually used prime strength, but average resistance to corrosion. It is often used in valves or pumps and it has many more applications. Alloy 431 and 420S45 are used in martensitic stainless steels.
