What is a clause?

A clause is a group of words that contain a verb and its subject.

Dogs run.

Verb


The subject is the person or thing carrying out the action of the verb.

The verb is the action the subject is doing.

Dogs run.


But wait!!

Clauses can have an object too.


Sally isswimmingin thepool.

Sally is the subject.

The verb is swimming.

The object is the pool.
