  1. Great Ideas for Home Repair and Maintenance Great Ideas for Home Repair and Maintenance When to fix and when to nix? Yes, it’s a tough question, but why look for solutions when you can easily find them right at home. Just borrow some time from your busy schedule and try some Do-It-Yourself tricks to resolve home disorders easily, quickly, for a steal. Here is a list to help you around. 1.Say no to clogs –Did you know that even oil can be a critical cause for clogs, especially in the kitchen sink and drain? Oils that are not solid at room temperature can get stuck in the drain. But this weird sounding problem has a very easy solution too. Just run some hot water down the drain with a scoop serving of dishwashing liquid. Doing this will emulsify the fat or oil, thus preventing a clog. 2.Not so cool AC–It’s always a good parting with your AC as the season ends, but by the time summer returns, to welcome your air-conditioner back is not such a welcoming task. ACs are the most overlooked and among the costliest appliances to repair, so it is always good to regularly inspect the condensation hose and assure free flow of water from the line. If there is standing water at the drainage point, create a path using a small garden trowel before it enters your house. 3.Paint and Vanilla–You’re probable thinking of vanilla ice-cream, the flavor, or the essence. You’re almost right. Vanilla, it is, but purposed differently. If you are in a fix with stale smoke or other odours that have seeped into the walls of your home, just add a few drops of vanilla to some paint and touch up the walls. It is preferred to apply a stain blocker to the walls before applying paint.

  2. 4.Drafty windows– Do you still think that timeworn air-conditioners and old heaters are the reason for shooting electricity bills? Well, sometimes drafty windows could be the culprit. Dry or cracked caulk often leaves your windows displaced, but that can be avoided with regular upkeep. Just remove the old caulk with a box-cutter or sharp knife and run a new bead of caulk along the seam. This will ensure that the windows are watertight as well as airtight, maintaining the temperature around the home and bringing those scary electricity bills down. 5.Drip-drip toilets– Leaking water never sounds good – neither to your utility bills nor to your bathroom floors. It can even hit your toilet’s internal workings. Generally, it is because of a flapper that allows water from the tank to the bowl. Change the flapper. To do that, just turn off the water valve, empty the tank, remove the flush chain from the lever and slide the old flapper up off the overflow tube. Slide the new flapper in place, reconnect the chain and happily turn the water supply back on. Home repairs can seem complicated, but can make a huge difference to your bank account.
