N.B. Exit speed is obtained by doubling difference between entrance and average speed. Exit speed is not shown due to issues with accuracy based upon a single point of measurement.

conclusions
Conclusions
  • The 3M units are a Speed Information Display. Primary purpose is to reduce traffic speed if needed
  • Vehicle counts will always be considerably lower as the unit does not classify / distinguish a single vehicle from a line of closely spaced traffic
  • 3M data / charts concur in most cases with Metrocount data, considering different locations / dates.
conclusions cont d
Conclusions Cont’d

3M units over the 100m detection range have reduced average and mean speeds by up to 6%, this does not include the additional speed reduction after the sign as driver ‘recover’ from their speed check.

conclusions cont d24
Conclusions Cont’d

Even after 12 months, the signs have maintained their effectiveness, seeing reductions in drivers speeds comparable with the reading taken just after installation.
