Oral medicine : Is the part of dentistry which is involved in the diagnosis & treatment of oral disease of non surgical nature which may be localised to mouth or which may be an oral manifestation of systemic disease & those phase of dental practice concerned with treatment of medically compromised patients

  3. Oral diagnosis Is the act of using scientific knowledge to dentify oral disease process & to distinguish one disease process from the other. It is a systemic method of identifying an oral disease process on the basis of facts obtained from the interviews & xamination

  4. Differential diagnosis : is the processes of identifying a condition by differentiating it from all pathological processes that may produce similar lesion. Final diagnosis : is the diagnosis arrived at after All the data has been collected, analysed & subjected to logical thought.

  5. Prognosis : is the prediction of the course, duration & termination of a disease & the likelihood of its response to treatment. Case history : it is the planned professional conversation which enables the patient to communicate his/her symptoms, feelings & fear to the clinician.

  6. Sign : an objective finding elicited by the clinician. Symptom : is a subjective complaint told by the patient based on his/her sensory feelings
