4. AV Plates & Back boxes  The metal or plastic box that is used to fit into a wall. The front plate of the socket or switch is then attached to the back box. There are two different kinds of Back Boxes, Plastic and Metal Back Boxes. Plastic one is used for stud partition wall, where the wall is made of wood or wooden stud frames and is finished with plasterboard. There are two lugs which joined onto to plasterboard tightly as the screw from the face plate is tightened towards the wall. Metal back boxes are the onces used in solid walls, such as stone walls, bricks and breeze block walls. The cut out for these metal back boxes are normally out of the wall material. The lugs on these back boxes are metal in material and normally fixed. As we tighten the screws on the face plate, it gets fixed into the face plate.
