  1. The Public Research Organisation Technology Transfer through Regional Economic Clusters (PROTTEC) initiative aims to enable the latest discoveries made by academics to be more quickly and effectively shared with businesses in order to help develop new products.

WP1 Regional Strategies, Partnership Capabilities and Tech Transfer State of the Art Aim: To identify the key regional economic drivers, innovation objectives, and the supporting innovation and knowledge transfer activities adopted within each of the four regions, to identify common areas within the regions, and to assess how well the activities can meet the economic challenges. Output: WP1 report, French translation, Peer reviewed paper ready for submission

Outcomes: • Understanding of regions’ economic development and innovation strategies • Understanding of initiatives/methods of innovation employed within regions and recommendations for cross border application • Identification of innovation gaps and/or aspects where improvement in knowledge transfer can be pursued through enhancement of existing schemes and development of new schemes through PROTTEC project

  10. WP3: Strengthening Human Capabilities • Summer school for PhD students, June 21st-25th at the University of Plymouth and University of Exeter. Session topics included: • Teaching and learning in the university environment • The Immersive Vision Theatre (IVT) • Intellectual property management • Funding streams/ applying for funding • Knowledge Transfer and the PRIMaRE project • Commercialisation • The Formation Zone • Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) • Using Patents to lever Research • University Spin-Out Companies • Managing the innovation chain

PROTTEC Re-cap on Staff exchange • The principal goal is to enhance skills of people involved in innovation, entrepreneurship and commercialisation of intellectual capital. • Technology transfer officers are targeted through staff exchange training in order to give them tools to better accompany innovation projects. • The staff exchange training has a focus on: • Exchange motivation (ex : matching competencies) • Objectives (working on a technology transfer projects, meeting actors of innovation in both countries) • Skills Exchanged • Personal Realisation

Staff exchange: CM In Plymouth, few staff dedicated to TT, but TT is an important element of many projects. • Innovative coastal technologies for safer European coasts in a changing climate (THESEUS) • COZONE: The British Coastal Network • Headstart programme: An interactive workshop session to influence 16 year olds • PML Applications LTD. Confidentiality can often present barriers to knowledge sharing Technology transfer models need to be developed around a good understanding of what the end users want and need. • MBA, Marine Life Information Network (MarLIN): Important tool for policy holders • Marine Climate Change Impact Project (MCCIP): The use of an annual monitoring card • Knowledge transfer in education • ENCORA and The Coastal Wiki • LINK; Economic hardship fund. Providing facilities and expertise to individuals with innovative ideas. • PRIMaRE Knowledge Exchange and KTP. Difficulty in identifying and matching the interest and needs of academics and researchers; the process of assisting knowledge transfer, once matched, is comparatively easier.
