  1. Eye Health Tips for over 60s Eyesight changes as we get older, so many of us need to wear glasses or contact lenses as our age increases. It is therefore important for senior citizens to be very careful about eye care and take extra precautions to protect their eyesight. Here are some tips given by the Eye Specialists of Retina specialty Hospital, Indore to keep your vision clear; Have regular eye tests: An eye test is not just good for checking whether your glasses are up to date or not. Regular eye tests is the safe way to track vision disorders early and treat them before it is too late and it’s also an essential check on the health of your eyes. People over age 65 should get eye tests at least once a year. • Maintain normal blood pressure, glucose level, and cholesterol In addition to being linked to cardiovascular disorders, diseases such as diabetes and hypertension increase the risk of sight loss because of the effect they have on blood vessels in the eyes. • Wear the right lenses An eye test will show whether you need a different prescription for your glasses or contact lenses or not. It's important to wear the right prescribed lenses. This will improve the quality of life and reduce the risk of sight loss. You may be entitled to help with the cost of glasses or contact lenses, you can ask your optometrist about this.

  2. Sleep Well for Healthy Eyes While sleeping the eyes clear out irritants such as dust, allergens, or smoke that may have accumulated during the day. This becomes more important as we age, when more people have problems with insomnia. Our eyes need exposure to some natural light every day to help maintain normal sleep-wake cycles. • Nourish the eyes with exercise Exercise lowers the risk of vision diseases due to the increased blood flow in arteries. The eyes need good blood circulation and oxygen intake, which provides regular exercise. It also helps keep our weight in the normal range, reducing the risk of sight-stealing diabetes. Use protective eyewear while enjoying sports.

  3. Cataracts It can be easily detected in the eye, this gentle clouding of the eye’s lens is extremely common in over-60s. A simple operation can restore eyesight. • Glaucoma Glaucoma is related to an increase in pressure in the eye that effects the optic nerve, which connects the eye to the brain. Left untreated, glaucoma leads to tunnel vision and, finally blindness. However, if it’s detected without delay, these complications can generally be avoided with eye drops. Use good lighting.  For well visioneyes need three times as much light when you’re 60 as they did when you were 20. For senior citizens you should have good electric lighting too, especially at the top and bottom of stairs so you

  4. can see the steps clearly. For reading, use a direct light from a flexible table lamp, positioned so the light is not reflected by the page and causing glare.
