  6. 1) Develop a mechanistic understanding for the d18O-Mg/Ca based salinity proxy 2) Develop an independent salinity proxy based on the dD of organic compounds (and combine 1) and 2) into an additional, d18Ow and dDw independent salinity estimate) 3) Develop an independent salinity proxy based on variations of the elemental and isotopic ratios, incorporated into biogenic calcite PaleoSalt
