The Medical Study of the Skin
Dermatologists examine, diagnose, treat, study, prescribe medication for, and attend meetings about different skin diseases. They see patients with complaints about their skin. These complaints include a section of their skin is itchy, bleeding, there’s a bump, etc. These problems can occur almost anywhere on the body including in the mouth, on the scalp, in the groin area, and on the knees and elbows. There are several different types of dermatology including pediatric, surgical and cosmetic, and dermapathology.
Different types of work you can do in dermatology include pediatric dermatology, surgical/cosmetic dermatology, dermapathology, and veterinary dermatology.
Pediatric dermatologists focus on the care of children with skin diseases. These diaeases/infections include acne, eczema, poison ivy, and other rashes.
Surgical and cosmetic dermatologists focus mainly with lasers to remove blemishes. They perform plastic surgery and liposuction.
Dermapathology specializes in the discovery of new diagnostic techniques. Dermapathologists work to provide comprehensive diagnostic abilities for skin lesions. They also write reports on different diagnoses
Veterinary Dermatologists diagnose skin diseases in domestic animals. This involves identifying the major clinical signs and then investigating all of the causes of this sign in a problem-solving manner.

To be a dermatologist...
You must go to college for 4 years
You need 4 years of medical school
You also spend 3 years just practicing with dermatologists to get specific experience.
You take part in an internship for a year in which you are paid. This is an opportunity to learn more about medicine or surgery etc. and you get to perform surgeries and such.
It’s also optional to be in a fellowship for a year or two to specialize in your field of dermatology.
