Carrying small amounts of money to help with transport, food, etc. are fine, but anything greater should be avoided. Debit or Credit Cards Debit or credit cards are a much better and add a layer of security for pilgrims with the new chip and pin system, as well as being able to report them as stolen to your banks (in the worst case scenario). Debit or credit cards are ideal whenever you run out of cash, or the need for money arises, as you can easily withdraw the amount required from the scores of ATMs that are around the Haram and surrounding areas. Debit cards also offer incentives when used for transactions, with excellent interbank exchange rates available, reward points offered on each purchase, as well as discount offers being available from the issuing bank.
