Anavil Community 4. Audhelia Caste 5. Baidya Community Napita Nau Napita Nau is the barber caste who was also known as Hajam. The work of Napita Nau is to shave the head as well as the face. He cuts the nails both of hands and feet, cleans the ears the barber plays an important part in village life, spreading news and matchmaking. In many social ceremonies, his position ranks next to that of the Brahman. On occasion of a funeral, he shaves the head of the living and of the dead; and invites friends and relatives to the funeral. With the coming of the modern technology, the Bahna have gone into different jobs like selling fabric, agriculture, manufacturing and trade. They have several traditional customs and ceremonies. Bahna caste is considered as a mixed group. In their societies, a girl receives half the share of a boy of the inherited property. The Audhelias prohibit marriage within the same clan. Girls get married at a tender age between five and seven years. In their society widow marriage and divorce are freely allowed. The Baidya is one of the most respected castes in Bengal ranking immediately after the Vaishyas, and before the Kayastha. They hold many distinctive positions compared to lower Hindu castes. Talented, cultured and intelligent as a class, the percentage of literacy and education of the Baidyas is much higher than that of any other community in Bengal.
