Story of Ganesh Chaturthi This year, Ganesh Chaturthi will be observed on 22nd August, Saturday. It’s a ten-days festival where the Visarjan takes place on Anant Chaturdashi. Generally falling in the month of August and September(according to the Hindu calendar, Lunar month of Bhadrapada), Ganesh Chaturthi also known as Vinayak Chaturthi holds a significant story behind it. Completely created from the clay or the earth from her own body, Maa Parvati molded the cute little boy and put life into it. She instructed him to stand at the door not to let anyone inside while she took a bath. At the entry then arrived Lord Shankar who was stopped by this little boy from entering the palace. Angry Lord Shankar was furious at being denied and beheaded the boy. As soon as Maa Parvati knew about this incident she asked Lord Shankar to bring the boy back to life. According to the legend, his human head could not be fixed anymore. Men instead found the head of an elephant. The same head was fixed and the little boy was brought back to life. And this is how he got the name Ganpati who was worshipped from then on before commencing any work or performing a ritual. So just before commencing the puja, one has to collect the following Ganesh Chaturthi Pooja Samagri to make the occasion joyful. Akshata rice, Kalash, plate, Mango leaves, Water, two pieces of red cloth, lamps and oil or ghee for the lamp and wicks, incense sticks, camphor, bananas, fruits, red flowers, saffron, turmeric, sandalwood paste, betel leaves, nuts, pedestal, and Modaks. Rituals of Ganesh Chaturthi Once each and every Ganesh Chaturthi Pooja Samagri is collected all you have to do is clean the place where the idol of Ganpati is to be placed. The Pandits chant sacred mantras to invoke the life in the deity which is known as Pran Pratishtha. Followed by this is the Shodashopachara where the Pandits offer prayers in 16 different ways.
Eco-Friendly Ganpati For Ganesh Chaturthi At the rime of Aarti, the Lord is offered with his favourite Modak, Pooran Poli, etc, and is then distributed among the family members. Just before immersing the idol, another ritual called the Uttar Puja is done where the members of the family bid farewell to the Lord. Moreover, followed by Visarjan, the people generally say “Ganpati Bappa Morya, Phudcha Varshi Laukar Yaa” which means they ask the Lord to come back quickly the next year. Symbolizing prosperity and good fortune, Lord Ganpati is worshipped all over the countries to fulfill their wishes, set them free of sins, and attain knowledge.
