1: The 27 Amendments Using non-linguistics to make learning the amendments relevant and memorable! Leah Ashley New Hanover HS [email protected]

2: Nonlinguistic Representation Learners acquire and store knowledge in 2 primary ways: 1. Linguistic by reading or hearing lectures Nonlinguistic visual imagery Visual representations help students recognize topics kinesthetic: movements The more students use both systems of representing knowledge, the better they are able to think about and recall what they have learned. (Marzano, Pickering, & Pollock,2001) Nonlinguistic Representation is an imagery form of representation. expressed as mental pictures & physical sensations

5: Bill of Rights The B.o.R. (basic rights) Lists rights that ALL citizens (you and me)get All are rights that colonists didn’t get! Wrote them to make sure that future generations will receive these rights “…our POSTerity. (post-game)

19: Amendment 13 (XIII) 13 is an unlucky number Being a slave was not good ? Think slavery! Abolished it! ?

20: Amendment 14 (XIV) 1 (one) 4 (four) ALL! We are all equal under the law! **HUGE!!!! Anytime one is not being treated equally…. Cite the 14th! Connect to 5th too! (open your hand!)

21: Amendment 15 (XV) African American suffrage Guess what? African American has 15 letters! 13, 14 and 15 go together!

22: Amendment 16 ( XVI) Do you like taxes? We all are “sick-teen” of paying taxes!

23: Amendment 17 (XVII) Now we get to elect senators! “Senate-teen”

24: Amendment 18 (XVIII) What can’t you do at 18? Drink… Prohibition (can’t do) **only one that was repealed by another! Repealed- you “peel” a banana and then throw it away...you CANCEL it!

25: Amendment 19 (XIX) What age do women look the best? Nineteen!

26: Amendment 20 (XX) Terms of president, vp and congress President gets inaugurated on Jan. 20!

27: Amendment 21 (XXI) What can you do at 21 years of age? Exactly… Prohibition is repealed!

28: Amendment 22 (XXII) Pres only gets two two! Two terms!

29: Amendment 23 (XXIII) People in DC love 23! Or, MJ’s number He last played for the…

30: Amendment 24 (XXIV) No poll taxes! 2 vote 4 free

31: Amendment 25 (XXV) What if the pres dies or leaves office? Rhyme it: “25 president dies”

32: Amendment 26 (XXVI) 18 year olds get suffrage! 2 + 6 = 8teen year olds

33: Amendment 27 (XXVII) Rhyme it: “Congress would be in heaven if it wasn’t for 27!”

34: Strategies galore! Federalism Federal and state governments share power over the people Umbrella Popular sovereignty We rule (everyone gets a crown) Federal court system SAD ? LEJ-123… say it with me!
