(CEPTS) Cayman Islands Environmental Project for the Tourism Sector • Consultant has been chosen (PA Consulting) • Programme will commence later this month. • The week of February 18th has been chosen for the launch • 7 Pilot Properties: • Southern Cross Club • Pirates Point • Little Cayman Beach Resort • Brac Reef • Sunshine Suites • Compass Point • Cobalt Coast

Sustainable Tourism Week (STW) • Week of February 18-23 has been designated as STW. • Will be used to communicate a range of sustainable messages and will also be used to kick-off the Cayman Islands Environmental Project for the Tourism Sector (CEPTS). • Goal is to have a week of activities dedicated to creating the awareness of sustainable tourism development by highlighting initiatives and best practices, and encouraging debate, discussion, action and participation by all sectors of the community. • Guest Speaker, Ms. Deidre Shurland, Director of CAST will be assisting our private sector via one-on-one meetings.

  17. Cruise Update

Berthing Facilities • CIG officially committed to the strategic decision of separating the cargo and cruise operations. • Cargo dock to be moved out of George Town to facilitate the construction of the cruise ship berthing dock at the current cargo dock • The location of the new cargo handling dock is still unknown. • Negotiations have started with at least two highly viable stakeholder investors and as a result a more strategic approach is being pursued. • This includes: • Reaching an agreement to satisfy local requirements for a thorough environmental impact assessment. • Agreeing to maintain berthing facilities within the immediate GT harbour area. • Increasing the space allotted for managing cruise passengers and thereby improving the visitor experience and • Agreeing to build the facility sufficiently strong to withstand major storms

Nickelodeon Family Cruise • Nickelodeon and Royal Caribbean International have introduced a seven-day family cruise and has scheduled its inaugural trip for August 2008. • Impressed with what the Cayman Islands had to offer they have included Grand Cayman on their itinerary. • Only one trip is currently scheduled while the company assess the interest shown. • The “Nickelodeon family Cruise with Royal Caribbean” will feature Nickelodeon activities and entertainment such as live game shows featuring the Nickelodeon slime, visits with kids' favorite characters like Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob SquarePants.

Cayman Airways Update CAL launches Brand Enhancement Campaign • Monday, November 5th introduced a newly enhanced livery of one of its 737-300 aircraft. • Over the next year other aircraft will get new identity • Other aspects of the brand enhancement campaign, such as uniforms, stationary, business cards, ticket counters, web-site, advertisements, vehicles and signage will be gradually updated according to replenishment needs.

The National Gallery - New Facility • To date over 1.9 million dollars (financial goal is $2.5 million) raised • Building slated for construction in early 2008 • Site just off the Esterley Tibbetts Highway near the Harquail Theatre. • Hoped that the building will be ready for occupancy by fall 2008. • The larger facility will enable the gallery to host wider and more diverse types of functions and exhibitions than currently possible. • The new gallery will as host a permanent display area for Caymanian Art, and it will provide for more comfortable facilities for tourists and local visitors thereby enhancing their experience and appreciation of Caymanian visual arts. • The new facilities will also allow for the educational centre and classrooms to be housed on the same premises.

TAB Update The new monthly Director's Tour at the QE II Botanic Park. • Two-hour excursion personally led by the Park’s General Manager, Mr. Andrew Guthrie • Offering expert insights on what’s growing, blooming, and fruiting along the way. • Price: US$20 • Hours: 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the second Tuesday of each month. • (Exceptions: March (Orchid Show conflict) and May (Kew International Botanic Competition conflict).)

Orchid Show - March 9 & 10 • Annual joint event hosted by both the Botanic Park & the Cayman Islands Orchid Society.  • An exhibition of locally grown orchids and a plant sale of specially imported orchids, most of which are in bloom. • Show not only showcases beautiful hybrid orchids, but also promotes the conservation of Cayman’s native orchids.  • The event has also become an occasion for educating gardeners on the techniques of growing orchids.  • Proceeds used for orchid conservation efforts to protect Cayman’s native orchids. • Price: regular admission of US$10. National Trust Update • New rack cards for the Mission House and Mastic Trail Guided Tours in circulation • Visitor Centre rack cards in design • New street signage for Mission House and Southern Mastic Trailhead. • Signage for Northern Mastic Trailhead, George Town Visitor Centre, Governor Gore’s Bird Sanctuary will be arriving and placed shortly • Signage will soon be in place for improvements to the Blue Iguana tour offered at the Botanic Park. Tours will be increased from twice weekly to twice daily commencing in the next few weeks. • “Uncle Sammy’s Pond” in West Bay has been purchased and will be developed with parking and a boardwalk for public enjoyment • The park adjacent to the Mission House is now open and includes a bird watching platform and children’s playground equipment.

Camana Bay - Now Open Books & Books • South Florida’s premier independent booksellers opened 4th branch in Grand Cayman. • At Camana Bay, Books & Books will also hold regular reader and writer events, becoming a gathering place for booklovers across Cayman. • Books & Books at Camana Bay is open from 10am to 9pm Monday to Saturday.  Gift certificates are available in-store.

Camana Bay - Now Open Hollywood Theaters • 6 screen cinema; stadium seating; high-back reclining seats • Offers staggered show times from early afternoon throughout the evening, with matinee prices available on shows before 6:00pm. • The cinema is fully ADA compliant, with wheelchair access in all theatres.

Camana Bay - Now Open Cayman National Bank • In January 2008, Cayman National Bank opened the town’s first retail bank. • In a 5,000 square foot space on the ground floor of 62 Forum Lane, Cayman National offers ATM machines and both personal and business banking. • The branch at Camana Bay is Cayman National Bank’s sixth on Grand Cayman.

Camana Bay - What’s Coming Abacus • Opening early 2008 • Camana Bay’s first restaurant • Offering all day dining and a sophisticated lounge bar from the successful team behind Deckers: Markus Mueri and Neil Bryington. • Cafe-style seating will provide al fresco dining • Open kitchen will present the opportunity to watch the chefs at work • Private dining room for business meetings or special occasions.

Camana Bay - What’s Coming Cafe Del Sol • Offering gourmet coffees and pastries • Set to open in early 2008 • Cafe del Sol will connect directly into Books & Books, allowing customers to enjoy a book or magazine with a cold drink or latte. • With internet stations and a community notice board Haagen-Dazs • The leading brand in premium ice cream, Haagen-Dazs will open its fourth store in Grand Cayman on The Paseo at Camana Bay.

Davie Jones Locker - GT • Set to be renamed the ‘Dog House’. • This continues the theme of other two restaurants in Grand Harbour called the Brick House and the Brew House • Now the third restaurant in the area owned by Harry Lalli. • Menu will be changed but otherwise it will continue to be a sports bar.

  47. Prime Churrascaria - WB • Opened 12th November 2007 • Located in Governor's Square • A new type of dining experience based on a Brazilian Churrascaria Steakhouse.
