  2. Essential Questions • How do you know what your users’ needs are? • How do you know how well you are meeting your users’ needs? • How do you identify the areas in which you could increase or improve your user support? • How do you address those areas?

Session Goals for Each State Team • Identify the strengths and areas in need of improvement of your state’s user support strategy and implementation • Determine best practices from other states you would like to implement • Garner feedback from other states on how to address your biggest user support challenge • Detail action steps to incorporate those best practices and feedback into your work (continued during state team planning sessions)

  8. Why Data use? Data Use is one of three focus areas of the SLDS grant program and related technical assistance Widespread, effective use of the data from SLDS to inform decisions and change behaviors is the ultimate measure of success large images

Create a multi-pronged training plan • Tailor training delivery mechanism and content to specific roles • In-person, webinars, on-line recordings • Documentation vetted by end users Identify and communicate points of contact (help) for users Couple system training with data training

Having more evidence ≠ knowing what to do differently Data as a support for broader policy and program efforts Provide means for collaborative action among like roles Highlight and disseminate tangible examples of how data are being used by their colleagues SLDS team partnership opportunities: • Partner with program areas within your agency (e.g., professional development, content area programs) • Partner with other agencies, postsecondary institutions, nonprofits, etc. that already work with your users and share your end goals

  18. DUSWG Product The essential knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors required by teachers and administrators to effectively use data to inform instructional and programmatic decisions. Objectives and Goals • Objectives: (1) to reduce states’ burden in developing data literacy/use trainings from scratch; (2) to inform and improve the articulation between pre- and in-service training for teachers and administrators • Goal: To increase the effective use of data by teachers and administrators to support student learning and success State Members • 28 members; 13 states represented • K-12, Postsecondary (educator preparation), and P-20W representatives Timeline • Full draft completed by and presented at STATS-DC conference in July 2014
