  1. Groin hernia surgery – discover the latest treatment options

  2. Groin hernia, also called inguinal hernia, is a medical condition wherein a fragile spot in the abdominal wall makes way for seepage of abdominal content that gets collected in inguinal canal region of the groin. Neither uncommon nor generally life threatening, groin hernia may lead to immense pain and discomfort for the patients. The condition may call for repair via surgery.

  3. Groin hernia surgery is one of the most common surgical procedures performed worldwide. Not all cases of groin hernia require surgery. The call for surgical procedure is taken by a team of doctors only after looking into the severity of symptoms, hernia’s size and general health of the patient. If deemed important, the patient should go for groin hernia surgery or else it can lead to complications later.

  4. Not all groin hernia cases are same. Groin hernia surgery is undertaken immediately in cases where in the small intestine has been incarcerated. Generally in such cases, patients experience fever and exhibit a hernia bulge with an inability to pass stool. Cases wherein symptoms are not so severe, the patients are briefed about the medical condition and elective surgery planned.

  5. There are different options available for groin hernia surgery. These can be either open mesh or non open mesh repairs. Open mesh repairs can be Lichtenstein technique, Plug and patch technique, Prolene mesh system (PHS), Kugel technique, Stoppa technique, Hertra mesh or Wantz technique. The open non-mesh repair techniques include Shouldice technique, Bassini technique, McVay technique and Desarda technique.

  6. Other than these techniques, groin hernia can be treated with laparoscopic repair too. Once diagnosed with groin hernia, it is always better for the patients to seek additional knowledge from sources other than their doctors. This additional information should be from a credible platform that tells all about latest medical techniques for every minor and major medical condition, including groin hernia surgery.
