Chapter 8

Description

Use concrete and specific nouns and verbs, descriptive adjectives and adverbs, and vivid images. (WR P. 143)

Description is useful in many kinds of writing because it helps the reader see the people, places, or objects being described. Good description depends on the effective use of specific detail. The more specific you can be, the more you will help the reader see the scene you have in mind.

For example, when you are describing a person such as your grandmother, your parent, or a hero you respect highly, you should think of the effective use of specific detail. Also, try to read the touching article, describing the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina (2005) and its impact on the three families. The imitate the good articles to create your own writing of DESCRIPTION.
