  1. veterinarian in greeley Colorado Choose Wisely The Veterinarians That Treat Your Pets It is important to have confidence in the ability of the veterinarians you take your pets to for either a scheduled appointment, or when an emergency causes you to do so. You want to know that your veterinarians of choice, and their clinic, will offer you every possible service to make sure your cat or dog, or other pet, receives the care they need to be happy and healthy, whether this is merely a preventive service, or whether it is offered because your pet is sick, unhealthy or injured. The veterinarian and his/her animal hospital should be chosen wisely, with care. You want to deal with a service known for the care they show to all animals that visit their rooms, you want to know they have great knowledge about pets’ health and conditions that may be a threat to them, you want to know they offer experience in their profession – preferably many years – and you want to know that they honestly take a keen interest in you and the needs of your pet. Good veterinarians offer varied services, many of which are aimed at preventive care and medicine. An example that refers is the fairly straight-forward process of neutering or spaying your animal in order to prevent unwanted kittens or puppies. Other examples of preventive medicine are the well-known PenHip evaluations for dysplasia that an experienced animal clinic can perform. This procedure can be done on puppies as young as 4 months old, for example. It evaluates hip looseness to determine whether the dog will, at some stage, develop dysplasia. Good veterinarians can also perform OFA tests to certify hips. As a preventive measure these tests are excellent, because if picked up early enough, the clinic can perform a procedure that may help to prevent osteoarthritis from developing. These are examples of preventive care for your pet, the same that taking them in for regular check-ups and their vaccinations is. Owners know when their pets are not well: the animal becomes listless, or they no longer want to eat or drink, they whimper and complain, and often they have trouble walking or moving around – often because of skeletal or other injuries that have either developed suddenly or have been brought on by, say, a cat or dog fight. This may well be a sign that they may need some or other form of orthopedic treatment. A good, experienced veterinarian has the knowledge to diagnose and offer the best treatment. They are able, when possible, to offer your pet orthopedic treatment to improve their life and their health. Orthopedic conditions that are fairly common in dogs and cats include the mentioned hip dysplasia which PenHip evaluates; the condition may also present as a result of torn muscles and ligaments, or broken bones and damaged joints or arthritis. A good orthopedic veterinarian can help with offering surgeries, laser therapy, a change in the animal’s diet for less severe conditions, pain killers, exercise to help them strengthen the affected body parts. A good veterinarian will also offer his clients tips and advice as to how they should proceed after an orthopedic surgery for their pet. Tips include offering your recuperating pet a safe environment where they will not hurt themselves and cause damage to the area of the surgery, it will include making sure the pet takes their medication if prescribed, it will include making sure the animal eats and drinks – and is comfortable in every sense. Talk to your veterinarian at all times to monitor how the animal reacts to the surgery and their new circumstances. Arrange for follow-up consultations to ensure the pet is well on its way towards good health again after orthopedic surgeries and procedures. The pet deserves nothing less.
