  1. Find The Best Kennels For Your Pets To Stay At During Your Absence Pets are often extensions of ourselves, much like children and close family members are, and because we love and often need them in our lives, most of us will go to great trouble to ensure their safety and happiness – and the assurance that they are always cherished and looked after. Therefore we have them by our side for as many hours every day as is possible. It does also happen that there are times when we will be separated from these pets, sometimes for a day or two only, and sometimes for much longer periods. Some of these separations are planned, others may happen because of unforeseen circumstances. Therefore it is advised to always keep a good kennel’s, or a pet boarding facility’s, contact details close by for those times that you are going to use such services. Of course, research before time is important. Many people feel that the best place to start would be the vet they like and trust, the vet that they take their pets to all the time. He/she may be able to offer advice in this regard as they are often involved with kennels, care facilities for pets, and boarding services. Or ask other pet owners in your region whose opinion you value. Let the vet or a friend advise you, then go and visit the facility to see if they meet your requirements and if they are indeed the best place for your cat or dog when you go away. Ask the facility that you feel best about, to allow you to visit before you book your animal in: you want a tour of the facility, you want to know they are the best place to take care of your pets and their needs. If they refuse a visit from you before you book, maybe it is best to avoid them. Look out for certain issues when you tour the facility, such as: is it well lit and does it offer good ventilation, also temperature control. You do not want the pet to stay in cold or wet circumstances, or extremely hot conditions either.

  2. Do they offer a place for your animals to socialize with other animals and humans, in other words, you want to know the pet is not locked up all the time with no interaction with others as this may cause nervous reactions, great separation anxiety and extreme distress for the pet. Will, the pet is exercised as you normally do, will it be allowed to rest and sleep when it normally does at your home? Other issues that need to be addressed include issues such as diet: if it is agreed you provide the food, what does management do to ensure your pet is fed the correct food on time all the time? You have to know what their policies are in terms of, for example, vaccinations. If they do not insist on vaccinations and your dog’s or cat’s medical information, you may want to reconsider as you mustn't expose your pet to other possibly sick pets. Also, is bedding provided or must you do that? Are blankets washed regularly so the animals stay clean and free from, for example, urine? Make sure the facility offers vet services, as pets, as we know, can get sick at any time. Therefore talking to your vet about the best facilities remains a great idea as he/ she will know which facilities make sure they offer good services in this regard. The above are some important issues to consider when you know you want a facility for your pet. There will be others too. Make sure you feel confident that your pet will be happy in your absence: find a great boarding facility for them.
