  1. How is Solid Rubber Different from Sponge Rubber?

  2. Solid rubber and sponge rubber are molded into a number of products used for sealing, insulation and cushioning. While both the types of rubber are made of the same material there is a difference between them. Sponge rubber has balloon like interconnected cells holding air in them or letting it pass through. However, solid rubber is not so with regard to its cellular structure. A lot of manufacturers are into sponge rubber molding and solid rubber molding process to produce several useful products. What is solid rubber used for? They are used widely as truck bumpers, shock absorbers, anti-vibration pads for automobiles and machines. Solid rubber anti-vibration pads are helpful in minimizing the damage caused to the mechanical parts of equipments. Gaskets and seals including oil seals are also made from solid rubber.

  3. What is sponge rubber used for? Products made from sponge rubber are used for soundproofing, shock absorption, weather stripping, cushioning, thermal insulation and reducing vibration. Apart from that it is used for filters and custom gaskets. The applications of products made by sponge rubber molding and solid rubber molding are wide and varied. There are also products made with rubber to metal bonding that are used extensively. Both solid rubber and sponge rubber are basically rubber. Sponge rubber holds air or lets it pass through unlike solid rubber. Sponge rubber molding and solid rubber molding products have lots of uses.
