Have been milled – germ and bran removed along with fiber, iron, and B vitamins

EXAMPLES

  • White flour

  • Degermed cornmeal

  • White bread

  • White rice

WHOLE GRAINS

contain the entire grain kernel – bran, germ, endosperm

EXAMPLES

  • Whole wheat flour

  • Cracked wheat

  • Oatmeal
