Community-Based Partnership • Four meetings held – Dec. 1, 2005; May 5, 2006; March 20, 2007; Sept. 28, 2007 • Coordinating Committee & Work Groups formed and operating • Governance structure developed • Mechanism for funding Partnership projects developed and operationalized • Name and logo developed • Project web site developed & functioning

Funded Projects of Work Groups • New Nutrition Education System • 6 Newsletters and Gain Tracker completed • Updated with My Pyramid for Moms (2008) • Breastfeeding social marketing campaign (2007) • Repeated in early 2008 • CCE intern-developed “Opportunities for Physical Activity” map and process (2007) • Support for breastfeeding in physicians offices- training • Container gardening in day care centers

Projects of Work Groups-Beginning Phases • Healthy Meals Initiative • Work with one site of a local convenience store chain to increase availability and access to fruits and vegetables • Taken to a logical stopping point • Investigating opportunities with other food retailers • Breastfeeding policies at work sites • NYS Labor Law Chapter 574 amended to add section 206-c on expressing breast milk at work

  7. Next Steps from Sept. 28, 2007 Meeting • Increase HSP activities in counties and with work groups without funded projects; • Increase frequency of electronic communication with HSP members and posting on web site; • Initiate discussion about structure(s) that will enhance likelihood of sustainability of HSP including leadership for Coordinating Committee.

  8. Goals for Today’s Meeting • Stimulate thinking and action around potential environmental interventions related to breastfeeding and healthy meals; • Inform members about our projects and their accomplishments and discuss next steps for these and other projects; and • Consider future of HSP.

  9. Future of HSP • USDA CSREES Project No. 2005-35215-15427 (funding source for HSP) ends March 31, 2009; • Pre-proposal submitted to RWJF to fund HSP to address the food environment and childhood obesity. • Ask for full proposal by April 9, 2008 • Notification per full proposal by Sept. 1, 2008 • If awarded, grant period 09/01/08-02/28/10
