  1. The Bull Shoals City Park and Freedom Trail A GPS Project Mapped By: Mark Dombkowski Mike LeCompte

  2. Introduction • The purpose of this project is to map a handicap accessible trail from The Bull Shoals City Park to the Scenic Overlook by The Bull Shoals Dam. This trail will be ten foot wide asphalt walkway for the people that like to take strolls in the park. • This trail is part of a larger project that is a cooperation between The City of Bull Shoals and The Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism. • This trail will connect the City Park and the New Visitor Information Center which will be built. • This center is the “flagship” of all the centers in Arkansas

  3. Purpose • The proposed Freedom Trail will provide an easily accessible place for the handicapped to be able to observe and enjoy nature. • The Park Improvement Plan will clean and beautify the Bull Shoals City Park and provide a peaceful, fun, and safe place for family activities.

  4. And So It Begins • First we met with Mayor Loren Thompson of Bull Shoals to find out were they wanted the trail to be. • We met at the City Park and began by mapping the Freedom Trail Route with our GeoExplorer 3 Rovers.

  5. Over the creeks that cross the trail, the project funding includes the building of small footbridges.

  6. When we finished mapping, we downloaded and compiled the Proposed Freedom Trail and the surrounding highways into a map. • The trail is blue. The roads are red.

  7. This is the complete map of the park with the proposed Freedom Trail in blue.

  8. We then combined the map with both a Satellite image and a Contour map. • This is a map of the Bull Shoals City Park combined with the Satellite image.

  9. This is a map of the park and the proposed Freedom Trail on a contour map.
