  1. Jury Awards Cancer Patient $26.5M in J&J Talcum Powder Lawsuit Let’s first understand the whole scenario about the patient and the lawsuit. ● Who: A 35-year-old woman with mesothelioma awarded with $26.5 million in her lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson. ● Why: The woman accused Johnson & Johnson of contributing to her cancer by ignoring warnings about asbestos in its baby powder, which she was regularly using from her childhood. 2. ● Where: The whole trial played out in superior court in Northern California. A California jury awarded more than $26 million to a woman who claimed Johnson & Johnson’s talcum powder products result in developing cancer. A 35 year old woman named Christina Prudencio claimed that she was a victim of asbestos in Johnson & Johnson’s talcum powder products as a child and later the result she developed mesothelioma. Now, the question is what is mesothelioma? Mesothelioma is a form of aggressive cancer that is almost caused by asbestos material. In this the concern of women is that J&J failed to warn consumers about the risk. Doctors diagnosed the woman with mesothelioma in 2020, and after that she underwent surgery. After the surgery, in August 2021, the jury awarded $26.4 million for pain and suffering, in a trial where she accused Johnson & Johnson of making her sick through ignoring warnings about asbestos in its talc baby powder after that the former preschool teacher received an additional $100,000 jury award for major damages. 3. Juries award damages to punish a defendant’s harmful behaviour. The jury saw through all of J&J’s lies, Prudencio’s attorney told the San Francisco Chronicle. The trial began over Zoom on June 15, Law360 reported. After the trial and results, on Monday a superior court jury in Alameda County revealed the results in favour of plaintiff Christina Prudencio, who filed the case of mesothelioma — a cancer of the thin tissue that lines the lung, chest wall, and abdomen. After the judgement, according to the Law360 the jury awarded the victim with $20 million for damages including pain and suffering, $4.1 million for lost past and future income, $1.57 million for lost household services and $800,000 for past medical costs. During the trial period, the woman said to Johnson & Johnson that she was using talcum powder from birth until she was 16. 4. When it started, Prudencio went on to become a preschool teacher and was going with her master’s degree when she came to know that she had cancer, her lawyers said. The illness was the result which forced her to stop working. Things went and on her 34th birthday last year, she had surgery to try to remove the cancer. Her lawyers said according to one research made in early 1971, Johnson & Johnson knew there was cancer-causing chrysotile asbestos in the talc, that time a researcher alerted the company. After all the incidents, the product stayed in the market unchanged until 2020. If we talk about a normal company then after any mistake they stop marketing the product and research the product, added by the jury. However Johnson & Johnson’s lawyer told the jury that Prudencio’s malignant cancer is most likely a result of a gene mutation. As we know Johnson & Johnson is facing many claims because the product usage develops cancer. Website: https://www.lawyer4help.com E-mail: help@lawyer4help.com Tel: +1 (307) 828 1476

  5. In June, the company failed to convince the US Supreme Court to hear its appeal of a $2.1 billion verdict in a class action lawsuit that claimed talc in its baby powder products caused ovarian cancer. https://www.lawyer4help.com/us-rejects-j&j-appeal-of-$ 2-Billion-Talc-Verdict The victims claimed the company knowingly marketed and sold a product that increases consumers’ risk of ovarian cancer.
