  3. 01 INTRODUCTION

  4. Every day, about 10 people die from drowning. Swimming lessons can’t prevent all of those deaths, but they can prevent a lot of them. A child doesn’t need to be able to swim butterfly or do flip turns, but the ability to get back to the surface, float, tread water, and swim to where they can stand or grab onto something can save a life.

  5. 02 WHEN TO START SWIM LESSONS

  6. When should my child learn to swim? Children don’t really have the cognitive skills to learn to swim until they are around 4 years old Swim lessons between 1 and 4 years old can be useful By age 5 or 6, most children in swim lessons can master the front crawl

  7. 03 WHAT PARENTS SHOULD KNOW REGARDING SWIM LESSONS

For children of all ages, look for programs that: Teach Good Safety Habits Children should learn to never swim alone or without adult supervision Have Experienced,Qualified Instructors Require Multiple Sessions Swim instructors should be trained and certified through a nationally recognized learn-to-swim curriculum Once children start lessons, you should be able to see gradual but consistent progress in their abilities over time.

  9. In addition, for children under age 4, look for programs that: Provide an age-appropriate atmosphere Include "touch supervision"

  10. Keep the water warm Maintain water purity

  11. 04 CONCLUSION
