  1. The Composition of the US Congress There are 100 senators and 435 representatives. There are 2 senators from each state. The number of representatives for each state depends on it’s population. It varies between 1 and 53 representatives. The senators are elected for a period of 6 years and the representatives, for 2 years.

  10. The 2008 Elections • In the House of Representatives, the Democrats have a majority of 54%. On November 4, 2008, there will be elections for all seats (for the 2009-2011 period). • In the Senate, there will be voting to elect 34 of the 100 Senators. Of the 34 seats, 21 right now are held by Republicans, and 12 by the Democratic Party.
