  • Live and Online is king

    • Think ‘Event’ – not ‘Regatta’

    • Attract attention using new technology

Essentials for making a succesful event

Live tracking – in rapid development

The ”latest” Generation

- on-the-fly calculations of rankings

- matured technology (minimal data loss, high-

- tracking of large fleets (>200) in several classes

- improved press and media services

- web-integration with sound and picture

- predictive calculations on every boat

- linking to background info (ISAF-database)

- web-spectator interactivity

An example to learn from

  • Case, Orienteering, before

  • Spectator hostile

  • Difficult to ’understand’

  • Difficult to unveil the decisive moments

  • Low profile in the public

  • Low media-interest

  • How Live-tracking is changing Orienteering

  • Inside the view of spectators, Arena-production and

  • web

  • The decisive moments brought live to the spectators

  • Live TV and web-casts from high profile events

  • - Better understanding by ’outsiders’, higher profile

Making viewers happy

This is so awesome to watch, I have never seen anything like this before.

It has apparently been tried in South Africa on keel boats, but never on

dinghies. It is so exciting and makes you feel part of the regatta. My son

does not seem so far from home he is only a click away. The replays are

a very good training tool as it is a bird eye view, which adds a new

perspective to teaching. Excellent allround. Well done

Kevin Robertson 11:01

This is an amazing site. The only issue I have is that I stay up all night

watching the racing. It is the best thing to happen to sailing since NZ won

the Americas cup. My wife is away at the moment so I can sit in bed and

watch all the races. If she was home I would have to be a good boy go to

sleep and watch the replays in the morning which is never as good as

watching live. Well done.

Making more viewers happy

I must admit this site is truly fantastic. The simple yet completely adequate

graphics and intuitive interface are superb. I am a laser coach and this

post race information would be hugely valuable to analyse the tactical

options taken.

Fredrik Strange 20:37

I\'m watching the races on a daily basis from a Mark Boat, - I really think that

this tracking solution is VERY interesting.

Hariet 05:46

I LOVE IT. Zoom in, speed up, slow down replay... a start gun signal would

be a great addition. Great for the folks at home to see the action as it happens.

Beats waiting for the results to be posted. Excellent training tool.

Different sports – same challenge

  • Jens Cornelius Knudsen, Head Producer, TV2 Norway"The use of live tracking as a production tool during the Nordic Orienteering Championships was a key factor in TV2’s decision to engage in the production of orienteering. Tracking contributed to raising the quality of the production by giving the viewers a good overview of the route choices of the runners.”
