  13. Added Authorizations in Special Education (AASE) • Six areas • Autism Spectrum Disorders • Deaf-Blind • Emotional disturbance • Orthopedically impaired • Other health impairment • Traumatic brain injury 02-Structure

  14. AASE Programs In the approved added authorization program each candidate completes a program of coursework and supervised field study that addresses the competencies identified in the added authorization program standards.

  15. AASE Hold appropriate special education teaching prerequisite credential • Includes current Education Specialist and previously issued special education teaching credentials • Internship, Preliminary, Clear, Professional Clear, or Life documents

  16. AASE • Authorization within grade and age levels authorized by prerequisite credential(s) • Cannot add if already authorized to provide services • Online recommendation from approved program sponsor

AASEs Based on Currently Approved Education Specialist Teacher Preparation Programs If a program sponsor with currently approved Education Specialist teacher preparation program(s) elects to offer one or more of the AASE programs, the institution may now begin to offer the AASE program based the corresponding preparation program

  18. Transitioning Preliminary Programs or Offering AASE Programs based on a currently approved Preliminary Program

  19. Plan to Transition Submit the 2-3 page “Plan to Transition” a minimum of 30 days prior to the transition date. A plan needs to be submitted for EACH transitioning program. 1. Please describe the process your program engaged in to address the modified standards. 2. Describe the changes that your program will be making to your courses and field experiences to address the modified standards. Please also provide your timeline for implementing your newly revised courses and field experiences.

  20. Program Documents Program sponsors will be expected to submit their new Program Standards for all Special Education teaching and services credentials as part of the accreditation process—Program Assessment or site visit

  22. Submitting NEW Preliminary or AASE Programs

  23. Submitting Proposals for New AASE or Preliminary Programs • Prospective program sponsors may now submit program proposals for both new Added Authorization and Preliminary programs

  24. Approval Process for New Programs • Approval Process • Reviewed by panel of experts • When deemed to meet the standards, (Preliminary or AASE) the program is recommended to Committee on Accreditation for initial approval
