Amphibians are unique in their ability to live in both water and on the land.Amphibians are metamorphic, meaning they change structure during their life, from an egg, to a tadpole and eventually develop into a frog.Life as a tadpole is spent in the water, at which point they breathe through gills and don't possess limbs.Developing into a frog, tadpoles grow longer and form fins then legs, their tail becomes shorter and their gills are replaced by lungs..
