A tattoo is a permanent mark or design made on your skin with pigment inserted

through pricks into the skin's top layer. Tattoos have evolved overtime; let’s have a look

on the risks of tattooing and the precaution to overcome it

The Risks

Tattooing is done by inserting permanent ink into the dermis – the inner layer of the

skin, to change the pigment. It is an invasive process. This means that skin infections

and contraction of diseases are possible, which include

Allergic Reactions - Red, green, blue and yellow colored tattoo inksmay cause

allergic skin reactions. An itchy rash at the tattooed area may occur even after

you get a tattoo.

Skin Infections –After tattooing you may have swelling, pain, redness and pus-

like drainage

Bloodborne Diseases - If the equipment used to create your tattoo is

contaminated with infected blood, then you can contract various bloodborne

diseases such as tetanus, tuberculosis, hepatitis B and hepatitis C.

As a precaution, it is very essential to know what are at stake before you get

tattooed.Tattooing has become easier today with the use modern machines, but as one

who will carry it for life, need to ensure if tattooing is right for you.
