This PAZ encompasses parts of the departments of Bolívar, Córdoba, and Sucre in northern Colombia. The area is hot, tropical, and characterized by low hills. Principal ethnic groups are Ladino-Mestizo and Afro-Colombian, with some indigenous groups.

This PAZ covers 10 rural municipalities in the departments of Usulután and San Miguel. The PAZ is in “coffee country” that is under increasing environmental stress due to deforestation. The main ethnic group is Ladino/ Mestizo.

This PAZ covers parts of three national parks or reserves that form the “green heart” of the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor. The ZAP includes three municipalities in the departments of Olancho and Gracias a Dios, part of the Honduran Mosquitia. The main ethnic groups are Ladino/Mestizo and Tawahka.
