  3. A Little Bit About Myself… • Graduated from Illinois State University • Masters in Reading from Concordia University • Currently live in Libertyville with my husband • This is my 5th year teaching • I teach Pre-K summer school

  4. My Philosophy • Every child feels successful. • Learning is fun AND meaningful. • Our classroom is warm, inviting and feels safe. • I feel it’s important to develop the “whole” child—both socially and academically.

  5. What does a typical day in look like in Full- Day kindergarten?

  8. Journal Time • Children respond to a prompt in writing and/or drawing • Daily • Work on spacing, punctuation, inventive spelling, proper letter formation

  9. Reading & Writing • Center for the Collaborative Classroom • Shared Reading (big books, poems, charts, songs) • Comprehension Skills • Guided Reading starting in late fall • Independent Reading

  16. Birthdays • NON-FOOD TREATS: pencils, stickers, trinkets • Celebrate at the end of the day • Summer birthdays: half birthday or in May • No birthday invitations issued in school, please!

  17. Field Trips • Fire Truck Ride – September • Chicago Botanic Gardens*– End of September • Marriott Theater – mid December • Kohl Children’s Museum*– End of April/Beginning of May *I need chaperones...look for a note with the permission slip.

  19. Dismissal Procedures • If there is any change in dismissal, you MUST send a note to school, or email me by noon.

  20. Things to Practice and Some Reminders • Tying shoes • Zipping/buttoning coats/pants • Correct pencil grip • Proper handwriting formation • Cutting with “thumbs up” • LABEL everything that comes to school • Gym shoes at school • Baggie of extra clothes in backpack
