Imperative

The Imperative is the same as the Command form.

Marsch!

Halt!

The imperative form is only used with the 2nd person (singular and plural):

du, Sie, ihr

and with the 1st person plural:

Wir

When the imperative is used with the 2nd person plural (singular and plural): wir, it is like a suggestion meaning“Let’s ~”

Gehen wir tanzen!

Let’s go dancing!

Trinken wir auf eurem Wohl!

Let’s drink to your health!

Hören wir gut zu.

Let’s listen closely.

Du (singular and plural): - imperative and the stem vowel change verbs

geben du gibst

Gib uns unser Brot.

Du (singular and plural): - imperative and the stem vowel change verbs

Nehmen du nimmst

Nimm doch ein Bißchen Käse.

Du (singular and plural): - imperative and the stem vowel change verbs

Essen du ißt

Iß doch etwas!

The ‘ (singular and plural): ihr-form’ imperative looks just like the conjugated verb form, but the pronoun is not mentioned.

Kinder, nehmt ein Stuck Kuchen, esst schnell und geht dann ins Bett!

The verb (singular and plural): sein is irregular. Here are the imperative forms:

Sei brav, mein kleines Kind!

Seien Sie geduldig, Herr Professor!

Seid ruhig, Kinder!
