  1. Yoga and Your Inner Self – Making the Connection

  2. In today’s frenetic world, it has become more and more difficult to find the proper balance between all of our responsibilities and the time that we need for ourselves. While we spend so much time juggling external tasks and commitments, it’s easy to lose connection with our own inner selves. Taking the time to reconnect with our inner feelings, however, helps us to understand our core values, our true motivations, and what makes us genuinely happy. By developing our inner selves and living more in tune with our most heartfelt desires, we can learn to create a sense of internal peace and contentment. By allowing ourselves to become disconnected from who we truly are, all manner of problems can arise. We may find that we start living our lives for other people,

  3. or even through them, and there is an increased risk of completely neglecting our own personal needs. Truly connecting with our inner selves may not come easily to everyone though, and for many of us, we need to continually work on it to ensure we retain that important connection. One way of staying in tune with your inner self is to practice yoga and/or meditation on a regular basis, and here are some tips that can help: How yoga can help you better connect with your inner self Yoga is a mental and physical practice that has truly stood the test of time. Though aspects of the practice have evolved and changed over the years, its roots stretch

  4. back many centuries. Studies have scientifically proven that the regular practice of yoga offers benefits in multiple areas of our lives – from stress reduction to improved physical fitness to better health to a greater sense of compassion. Coupled with meditation, there is no therapy quite like yoga for helping you to rebalance your internal energy and to help you feel grounded and in control of your life. People are drawn to yoga both for instant gratification as well as the many lasting benefits that come from practicing regularly. Directly after a class, one feels more relaxed and open – both physically and emotionally. Over time, once you’ve mastered the basic movements and can hold the poses effectively, you’ll be able to

  5. concentrate less on the postures and turn your mind inward. This allows you to block out what’s going on in your outside life and focus on the here-and-now. Those who practice regularly, typically find that they’re rewarded with a deep sense of inner calm that becomes easier and easier for them to access. Combine yoga with meditation, for the ultimate journey of self-discovery While many people have taken up yoga and received tremendous gains from doing so, the focus is often on just the physical aspect of the practice. The deepest and most profound benefits, however, come from including and integrating meditation

  6. along with the physical practice. While both can be practised independently and effectively, it is the combination of the two that will accelerate your progress along the path of self-discovery. As we learn through meditation to tune out the distractions of the external world and focus inward, we recognize how needlessly busy our minds can become and how this constant chatter can distract us from our true selves. The postures of yoga help to strengthen and balance the body and the discipline of meditation helps to strengthen and balance the mind. When combined, these two practices complement one another and magnify the benefits of each.

  7. So, if external pressures are creating stress in your life and you are looking to reset and reconnect with your true self, it may be time to join the millions of people who have taken up yoga and meditation. Before long, you’ll start to feel noticeable changes and that lead to greater understanding of and connection to your inner self. It’s easy to get started. You can find lots of information online – from basic primers to videos to more extensive discussions. These options can acquaint you with the practices and help you to test the waters, but ultimately being guided in person by an experienced teacher will be the most beneficial. Find a good local class geared toward beginners. Once you’ve learned the basics, you could even

  8. consider a vacation such as a yoga retreat that will immerse you deeply in these practices. However you choose to get started, it’s best to make a commitment to yourself and integrate it into part of your routine.
