  1. What are the mistakes that you can avoid for a successful cloud migration? Have you already heard enough about tips to make cloud migration successful from various cloud migration service providers? In one of our recent blogs, there was a complete checklist to help you with a successful cloud migration revealed. In the following blog post, I have uncovered the top mistakes that enterprises make while migrating in the cloud. Would you call cloud migration challenging, complex or time consuming? There are many who also complain that their cloud migration project has run over budget. The ‘lift and shift’ approach is usually perceived as the simplest and straightforward way to migrate IT resources, digital assets and applications from on premise to the cloud. I have collated a list of some of the most common mistakes that enterprises while trying to migrate in the cloud. You probably already have one of your workloads running in the cloud. You must keep the following pointers in mind before you choose an outsourcing partner to manage your cloud migration needs. When you start, you must be clear with the reasons to consider cloud migration, the realistic benefits from a cloud migration (like agility, increased operational efficiency, enhanced security, cost savings and higher resource availability), and the best suited cloud migration strategy. https://tr1.cbsistatic.com/hub/i/r/2016/11/29/8a5b699c-2cce-4b95-a645- 1f0c2a37a138/resize/770x/14cd244d7f50e6079494b06c98a97359/cloudmigration.jpg 1.Migrate your application, IT resources and digital assets, not your issues There can be misconfigurations and poorly built environments that your legacy infrastructure is inflicted with. You don’t want the issues in your current infrastructure to get transferred in the cloud. If you think

  2. that with a lift and shift approach in the cloud, all the existing issues in your current environment will vanish, it isn’t going to happen. Rearchitect your solution and think of the core services that you will migrate. High availability, security and resilience must be on top of your list when you’re considering a new design. 2.Consider data transfer costs There is no cost to transfer data in the cloud but moving the data out of cloud will cost. Pricing differ by service, region, and the services that you use. Evaluate the services closely so you can reduce data transfer costs. Another approach that can help you to reduce costs is to cache their data from your servers. 3.Make security a top priority Security must be critical always. It doesn’t matter whether the cloud migration is big or small, cloud security is always a priority. If you follow a multilayer approach, it will incorporate security at all levels, i.e. network, user, application and service. It will make you system secure from all kinds of threats, data breaches and vulnerabilities. 4.Don’t forget the people Often enterprises think that cloud migration is only about the IT infrastructure. It includes a transformation in day-to-day activities and processes, and most importantly people. Employees must undertake an ownership and feel involved in the cloud migration process. They must be made aware of the benefits and changes that they can expect with the migration. I’d like to hear if you’ve had a successful cloud migration or still wondering of ways to make it right. You can speak to one of our cloud experts to understand the different nuances related to a cost-effective, seamless and efficient cloud migration.
