The Future Of Self-Driving Trucks: Pros And Cons

The vast majority of businesses that sell goods rely heavily on trucks. As truck drivers are more inclined to violating the federal hours of service regulations, there is a huge number of drowsy, tired, aggressive, and drunk truck drivers on their roads. Have you been injured in a truck accident? Consult with a Los Angeles truck accident attorney from JML Law. Call at 818-610-8800 to get a free consultation about your case.

  1. The Future Of Self-Driving Trucks: Pros And Cons

  2. Could Autonomous Trucks Solve The Problem Of Trucker Shortage And Sleepy Human Drivers? The trucker shortage problem, on its part, gives birth to another problem. Trucking companies tend to pressure their drivers to do more work than (a) they can handle, and (b) is federally allowed. The trucking industry is strictly regulated by federal laws, which limit the number of consecutive hours a truck driver is allowed to drive in a given day. As truck drivers are more inclined to violating the federal hours of service regulations, there is a huge number of drowsy, tired, aggressive, and drunk truck drivers on their roads.

  3. That being said, could self-driving and autonomous trucks be the solution to both the trucker shortage problem and truck accidents in Los Angeles and elsewhere in California? This is the question they asked a Los Angeles truck accident attorney at JML Law. Let’s weigh in the pros and cons of having self-driving trucks haul cargo all across the nation.

  4. Pros and cons of self-driving trucks in the U.S. Sure, the idea of having self-driving trucks sounds promising. But how real is that idea and how safe would it be to have thousands of autonomous trucks not operated by human drivers on the roads of California and all across the country?

  5. Pros: Self-driving trucks – and other self-driving automobiles, for that matter – have the potential of making smart safety and route decisions; With self-driving trucks, the problem of drunk drivers will be eliminated (because, trucks do not consume alcohol, obviously) Since human-less trucks are not operated by human drivers, who oftentimes choose to sacrifice sleep and rest to be able to transport goods faster and earn more money, the problem of drowsy, sleepy, and tired driving will not exist with autonomous trucks With more self-driving trucks on the road, the trucker shortage problem in the U.S. will be either reduced to a minimum or eliminated.

  6. Cons: Despite self-driving trucks having the potential to increase safety and efficiency, the technology of autonomous trucks has not been fully proven to be workable or safe (“In fact, earlier this year, a self-driving Uber vehicle killed a woman in Arizona,” reminds their experienced truck accident attorney in Los Angeles. It will take many years to make self-driving trucks operational and safe in a multitude of conditions, including road, weather, potential crash situations (as you may know, truck drivers must be able to adjust to various road and weather conditions all the time); As many states are reluctant to allow human-less trucks to enter the U.S. roads and highways, there may be many difficulties in the implementation of self-driving trucks across the nation;

  7. It remains unclear whether or not self-driving trucks will be able to proactively react to such conditions as falling debris, overloaded cargo, tire blowout, blind spots, malfunctioning brakes, and other; While self-driving trucks can fix the problem of trucker shortage in the U.S., let’s not forget that they will also destroy lots of truck driver jobs across the nation (it is estimated that there are approximately 3.5 million professional truck drivers in the U.S.); If a self-driving truck gets involved in a truck accident, determining liability will become much more difficult.

  8. Have you been injured in a truck accident? Consult with their Los Angeles truck accident attorney from JML Law. There may be no self-driving trucks on California roads yet, but it is nonetheless extremely difficult to prove the truck driver’s fault in an accident.
