A BREAKDOWN OF $500M IN NEW DEVELOPMENT APPROVED FOR BOSTON'S NEIGHBORHOODS The Boston Redevelopment Authority board last week approved close to $500 million worth of real estate projects in seven city neighborhoods, including three large-scale mixed-use projects in Dorchester and Brighton that contain close to 1,000 units of housing.

  3. All told, the BRA approved nine projects totaling $478.2 million in projected-development costs. The projects are expected to bring 1,139 new units of housing online, of which at least 135 units will be designated affordable.

HERE'S A BREAKDOWN OF THE APPROVED PROJECTS: Dot Block, a $150 million, 475,000-square-foot mixed-use project planned for a four vacant parcels at the 1200 block of Dorchester Avenue, a combination of gritty lots and industrial buildings at the juncture of three Dorchester neighborhoods. Dot Block will span five buildings and include 362 residential units, of which 47 will be deed-restricted as affordable, and 37,000 square feet of retail space.

  5. The $200 million, 10.2-acre expansion of South Bay Shopping Center in Dorchester, The expansion will include 475 new housing units, of which 62 will be designated affordable. Other features include a 130-room hotel; 113,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space (including a flagship Wahlburgers); an AMC Theatre; and parking for 1,100 vehicles. The project is expected to be complete by 2018.

  6. 530 Western Ave. in Brighton, a highly visible site at the Birmingham Parkway Avenue where The Mount Vernon Co. proposed a $48 million, 132-unit rental development with 108 parking spaces. Studios will start at around $2,000; one- bedroom units will start at around $2,600; and two-bedrooms will start in the low $3,000 range. The project is "designed to provide luxury living at a price point far below downtown Boston," according to The Mount Vernon Co.'s proposal. The project will be called The Icon. The site "has been derelict for decades, and this project, along with the Speedway across the street will create a new and impressive gateway to Western Avenue, and could be the catalyst for redefining this currently underutilized area," according to The Mount Vernon Co. corner and of Western Leo

  7. Wonder Group LLC's 64 Allandale project, a 20-unit project on a 2-acre tract in West Roxbury adjacent to Allandale Woods. Miner Realty's five-story, 45-unit residential project with two floors of commercial space at 839 Beacon St. in Fenway's Audubon Circle neighborhood. The $17.5 million project will replace a two-story commercial building.

  8. A new community center at Roxbury's Madison Park Village, an $8 million project to be built by Madison Park Community Development Corp. The 22,000-square-foot community center will include a public internet cafe, an out-of-school program space, classrooms, a multipurpose recreation room and an exercise room. Vacca Property Management's 46-unit apartment building at 4945 Washington St. in West Roxbury, an $11 million project on a site formerly occupied by Todesca Landscaping.The project will include 67 on-site parking spaces.

  9. Savage Properties' proposal to renovate existing row houses and build new units to create a 33-unit apartment complex at 1470 Tremont St. in Mission Hill. The $8.5 million project will include a mix of four-bedroom duplexes, studios and one- and two-bedroom units. Developer Doug George's proposal to build a five-story, 24-unit condominium complex with 3,350 square feet of commercial retail space at 410 W. Broadway in South Boston, a site that was previously occupied by a church that was damaged in a fire. Three two-bedroom units will be deed- restricted as affordable.
