  2. TRANSLATION QUALITY How to measure translation quality? – This has been one of the greatest debates of the translation industry. Not only do different organisations and translation service providers use different metrics and standards to determine the quality of their work, but also clients that request interpreter service have different opinions on what makes a good or a bad translation. In this blog, we are going to give you insights into what’s usually involved in the quality measurement process.

DEFINE SPECIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS Though laying out specific ground rules and guidelines in advance will certainly benefit your project, when it comes to evaluating the quality of a completed document translation, it is inevitable to have your specifications and expectations in place. Write down phrases, names and terms specific to your company and project and define how and when you will be using them. Establishing a well-defined, consistent approach toward quality assessment will help you maintain a reputation for meeting highest quality standards.

Accuracy errors may include phrases or mistranslations that fail to convey the same message as the original document. Fluency: This includes spelling and grammar errors which can affect the quality and reliability of the translated document. Verity: Indicates toward the relationship between the text and its world. It determines whether the text effectively represents the world or have issues regarding usability. Design: This includes errors pertaining to the format or style of the text such as paragraph alignment and overall page layout.

When evaluating the quality of a translated document, how you plan to use the document will help define which errors to look for. Besides, it is also important to determine the severity of each error. For this, the translator will need to work with the client to find out the impact of certain error on their business. For instance, can the error affect a business’s safety, brand reputation or just cause confusion?

  7. HAVE PROFESSIONALS CHECK THE TRANSLATION Most word processing software can identify basic spelling and grammar errors. However, you can’t entirely rely on the software and for some errors, you will need a trained professional. Most translation service providers have a dedicated in-house quality assessment team and qualitative methods in place to spot errors in translations and suggest necessary changes to ensure highest quality standards.
